Unclaimed money - Grandfather
Topic: Unclaimed money - Grandfather
Posted: 07/February/2019 at 01:20
Recently me and my brother found a sum of unclaimed money in the account name of our late Grandfather on the Money smart website search tool.
My grandfather has since died, along with all whom are listed by name in his will (my mother, grandmother, and uncle).
His will does also state in the event of my mother dying he wishes for it to be divided among her children.
Any advice in relation to the possibility for us to retrieve this unclaimed money would be greatly appreciated. Will supporting documents for example his will and all our family's death certificates be sufficient evidence?

You will need a death certificate and a copy of his will and sufficient documentation to prove a link to the claimants. You do not need to use the services of any organisation who claim to locate the missing funds. If you do use such services they will claim a significant commission to find the funds.
Be aware that often the amount of money in such unpaid accounts is very small, so don't spend it in advance.
