The following does not constitute legal advice and should not be relied upon as such.
It sounds as though you have nothing to fear in terms of criminal prosecution. The store obviously have a policy for dealing with remorseful first time offenders. If they had intended to make a complaint to the police they would have done so at the time you were caught. Since they have kept a record of your details, they will clearly not take a lenient approach if this happened again. Youy are entitled to rely on their indication that they would not call the police and you should certainly seek legal advice if they went back on their word. This may amount to an abuse of process given the inducement you were given at the time to sign the voluntary statement. Aussielegal.
