A few years ago when I returned to Australia, I brought my then partner.
We purchased a house and by putting the house into my partners name, and staggering the (entry into the country) dates, we got a $7000 reduction in stamp duty. As a person who previously owned Australian (NSW) property, we were not eligible. My kiwi partner was in effect a first time buyer.
What would likely be the consequences if we decided to own up the the fraud?
Would there be a criminal record?
What other kinds of marks might there be against my name , or that of my ex partner?
