Hi, this is my first post here but I'm not sure where or who to ask about things like this. Never had a ticket before.

I parked my car on Charles St in Baulkham Hills (NSW) this morning and came back to find a parking ticket under my wiper for parking to close to an intersection. It came as quite a shock as the spot I parked looked completely fine to me, and there's people parked there all the time.

A lot of people park along that particular street as it's close to a bus stop.

I have a feeling that there's no way I can get out of it, but I'd at least like the council to put up some signs so that other people don't get booked, too. It really looks like a legitimate place to park.

$189 seems like an awful lot of money for something like this.

Anyway, I have some pictures of where I was parked which should clear things up. I'm parked on a one way street, so I'm not blocking anybody's view or impeding access to the street.

Hi Jeff. Where there are no signs, rule 170(3) of the Australian Road Rules applies. This states that it is an offence to park within 10 metres of an intersection without traffic lights.

Unfortunately from the photos, it looks like you have committed an offence.

The diagram below shows how to measure the distance:

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I just didn't realise it would be an issue as I was parked on a one-way street; i.e. parking in that spot doesn't block anybody's view as no traffic comes from that direction.

I park on that street nearly every day and there's always someone parked in that spot, I don't think anybody else realises it's illegal either.

Looks like there's no way for me to get out of this, it just really hurts as I'm a full-time student and the fine is more than a week's income for me.
