Are there details (dates, amounts etc.) regarding the money your wife owe to them?
If NOT, you should NEVER contact them.
Instead send them a "cease and desist" letter telling them that you and your wife will seek for damages.
The woman who rang my wife was apparently pretty rude and kinda tricked her into giving her our address. My wife was dumbfounded by the amount (15k) and the women said it could have started off as a little as $100 and fees and interest have pushed it up.
From what I have read if they take her to court they would probably end up with nothing as she earns nothing, and if they bankrupt her they would get nothing anyway.
Don't worry about it as it is early days. Verify the debt first. These guy's are 99% lies and bluff. There are many processes for them to follow and it will take quite a few months before court appearance if any. Remember too that this is a civil action not crimminal.
The debt can increase many times, especially if they delay contacting you in the first instance. They usually buy the debts for 10 - 15c in the $. A common aproach of theirs is if you have not got the money to- ask your parents to lend it to you. Maybe even for them to get a loan using their house as collateral
Advise them that the conversation is being recorded even if not. It will usually tone them down a little or sometimes they will get even more abusive.
Thanks mate, I was considering ignoreing it but I figured it can't hurt to get all the info anyway. They letters are just demands for an amount, they don't explain anything at all.

The reason I asked about me is they really have buckleys of getting that amount as my wife is a stay at hope mum and we live with her pensioner parents(rent).

To put your mind at ease if needed, i would contact them from a public phone and request the details of the debts. If you believe they are not your debts, inform them of this.
DO NOT give them ANY of your personal details, except for your name and address that they have anyway.
Ask for comprehensive details of the debts firstly in verbal, then in writing.
DO NOT admit liability of the debts in anyway even if you think they might possibly be yours at this stage!
If the debts are over 6 years previous, you will not need to pay them in all probability.
Or you can do nothing and see what eventuates. Keep a record of all details and actions.
If the debts are prior to you, you would not have signed anything so obviously you are not liable.
Hi everyone, My wife recived 3 letters from credit corp for debts that she dosen't belive she owes. I just have a couple of questions, it seems , according to google that we should contact them and ask for further info, they have provided an email address. Is it ok to ask for this info via email and how should it be asked? And second these debts are prior to me, can I be held liable is any way for the debts. Thanks in advance.
