Hi,
my mum commited suicide 4 years ago when i was 14, i recentley turned 18 and by pure chance we found out that mum had about $6,000 in super. We only recived a grand when she died as he mother who was astranged untill a year before she died handled it all. I have conacted the super company sunsuper and found out she also has insurance with that amounting to over $70,000. If i make the claim and get approved will i recive the whole amount and be able to put it away untill my brother (16 and 7) are old enough to be trusted not to waste it. I dont want it going to my youngest brothers father as i know he gambles and drinks and will waste it and my 16 brother has already told me i should look after it for him. And what are my chances of getting it i lived with her at the time, and i now have a son of my own?

If you are eligible you should receive some, depending on the conditions of the insurance company. However you will not receive it all. If you have two siblings you will only receive a third of the current value, when your next brother reaches 18 he will receive a half of the value at that point in time and when your youngest sibling reaches 18 he will receive the balance.

However if you have a pressing need now to receive the policy payout, to allow you to care for your siblings, talk to the insurance company and see what their rules allow.

Be aware that if your mother committed suicide and the policy was only held for a short period, there may not be any payout.
I am NOT a lawyer. Anything said is NOT legal advice.

Please post your legal questions in a forum rather than sending a PM. Thanks.
