The smsf can own a property and rent it out to owner of the smsf providing it meets the rules.

the first problem you have is that a Smsf cant be owned by a trust it must have a company or a real person as a trustee.

A question to those on the forum who know.

Is it possible to have a SMSF controlled by a trust that purchases a private residence and then rents it out to the person in control of the trust? This would be an interim move until some other issues are resloved and at that time the SMSF would roll over to another property which would then be a pure investiment property.

If this is not possible are there any there strategies that can be employed to achieve a similar outcome?

Thanks
