I have been for some time under the impression that an employer   can not make a worker take long service leave.
I have been alerted to the fact that our Enterprise Bargaining
states that entitled long service leave hours must be taken within five years of becoming due .
can this be done legally ?

Probably can if it is included as a clause in the enterprise bargaining agreement. Check with your union.
