I am no expert, but I can pretty much GUARANTEE that all and any replies on this forum will start with:

"GET LEGAL ADVICE/LAWYER/SOLICITOR NOW"

Seriously, half the entries on this board could be sorted with that one statement.

If you have a legal issue, yes, seek some advice here, maybe even some guidance, but first and foremost:

"GET LEGAL ADVICE/LAWYER/SOLICITOR NOW"

They are the one who is going to go to court and MAYBE get you off.

rockbear,

Please don't get me wrong, I talk on this forum, both seeking and providing where I can. All I am saying is a lot of people need to realise the first stop is get a lawyer.

The advice here is brilliant, always helpful, but doesn't beat a lawyer actually being there.

People just need to know they need to get a lawyer, it is always the first stop.

actually the first stop is find something   out about the law that applies first then you can speak to a lawyer second

at least you'll know something about what he's talking about, and he may then not take you for a ride.
Luke 11 46: Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won't even lift one finger to help carry those burdens.

Rambler has a point. If you've read the relevant act, case law and have some common law background you'll be a lot more informed and the billing hour charges may go down.

And this forum is one of the ways that you can find out what laws may apply, and what the effect may be, as well as receive information as to what type of lawyer to go and see.
I am NOT a lawyer. Anything said is NOT legal advice.

Please post your legal questions in a forum rather than sending a PM. Thanks.

I have learnt so much since I joined this forum. I wished I had known this forum sooner as it would have saved me thousand of dollars to engage solicitor every time I needed some legal advice.

I look for some relavant information in the forum and do more reserch of my own before I talk to my solicitor, now my solicitor doesn't think that I had dust between my ears, it shows that I have a little brain .

Before I post my advices to others, if unsure of certain answer, I do some reserch to ascertain that the reply is 99% correct.

This is a fantastic forum. It is a shame that there is no statistic kept in regards to the feed back.

Look at Martin's posts alone, he has posted close to 8000, let's assume that at the least 10% of his posts has done some good, they would have benefited people, that is almost 800. I am certain that the number is a lot higher.

Also other people like jazzz, asiaoil, rambler and others, they are doing fantastice job here without pays.
Personal opinion only, should not take it as legal advice

OK, I see what rambler especially is saying. As I said, this is a great place for further advice, which is what I use it for.

Yes, I have a lawyer for the legal action I have going at this point, but I still utilise this site to discuss and seek advice.

I am not in any way sekeing to belittle this site or the people who provide advice, I am simply suggesting that some people come here and expect to not need a lawyer at all. That could be a bad thing.

Generally one of my personal rules is that if an issue looks serious (monetarily or criminally) I try to advise that the OP seek legal advice ASAP.

The other area where this forum can help is saving expense for those who have unrealistic expectations. They come here and ask a question on the best way to sue someone or perhaps ways to defend a case, when it is clear from their statements that they have no idea how the law works.

We can let them know, at no cost, that they do not have a case, or the defence they propose cannot succeed. Hopefully we can put them right on an appropriate course of action, so that when they do consult a solicitor they are not paying for hours of unproductive work, while the solicitor explains to them, what they have already learnt here.

Some times we get it wrong, and if there is anything that I have said which is incorrect, I am very happy to be put right, we all learn that way.
