Internet Question:
Hi,
You don't have a technology section thought I'd post my query here instead.
It's been used on me so was having a look around and found some sites that detect invisible yahoo users. Google legal or not and found 2 different camps of opinion, some yes some no. Even Cnet has an APP to download to detect invisible yahoo users.
Like I said it's been used on me so wondering legal or not? Or is it legal in the US and not here??
TIA
DB

I can't see why it would be illegal. Read up on the Australian privacy act and Yahoo's T&C and report back. Oh - hang on - are you trying to stalk someone? That might be illegal.

No no stalking involved. Just curious as someone has used it on me to tell if I'm invisible or not.
In any case that particular weakness for yahoo has now been patched.
thanks for your quick reply ;)

I doubt you'll find a specific act and clause; however, as I alluded, if the intent is criminal then there maybe something to go on.

1. Whats an invisible yahoo user?
2. Whats invisible?

There is the "dark net", do you mean that?

Nah Boony - he means that he has set his status as a Yahoo IM user to "invisible".

It's pretty trivial. The OP is worried someone can see when he/she is online through a backdoor approach.

Well its a privacy issue. (Like a virtual peeping tom). Goodluck on locating the jurisdiction to deal with the matter though.

Incidently MSN has a inbuilt function which allows you to see who has you on their Messanger. Its great except when the wife asks why such and such has you on their list (and you deleted them about 5 years ago) .
